A 3 day / 2 night course – Day one includes an introduction to the issues within Southwold (for a small town there are so many lines of enquiry from a geographical perspective to investigate here ranging from the impact of climate change, coastal management, gentrification, changing places, impact of geology on coastal recession, regeneration etc – so students have few problems finding individuality to each of their study titles) - students experiment with new forms of data collection during the fieldwork menu and develop a sense of place in the town and on the beach.

In the evening, students work independently to design their fieldwork titles and aims, which we are then on hand to offer guidance with on the morning of day two. Students create their own bespoke fieldwork data collection booklets before heading out from our central base to independently gather their data.

In the late afternoon, we complete a session demonstrating GIS and statistical tests – students then consider what other data they may need to collect to enable suitable presentation and analysis.

On the final day, students have a second opportunity to gather data from Southwold, based on their refinements from the evening before.
