Students leave loaded with the skills to confidently complete their own NEA investigations in a landscape of their choice.

Our most popular NEA course, a jam-packed fieldtrip! Day 1 introduces students to the requirements of the NEA with classroom sessions on planning and designing an effective study, before conducting a full tour of Southwold highlighting the key geographical issues locally. A wide range of human and coastal methods are demonstrated, whilst further classroom sessions demonstrate the role of sampling and GIS, loading the students with all the tools they need to develop their own investigations. Having developed titles in the evening of day 1, students spend the morning of day 2 designing their itineraries and fine-tuning their studies before undertaking 5-6 hours of primary data collection. A further opportunity for data collection on the morning of day 3 enables students to enhance the reliability of their data and ensures they all leave Southwold with an abundance of data and in a position to begin the write-up of their NEA's.

A very popular and practical field course which is divided into 2 separate overnight residential trips. Trip 1 includes a day each of both coastal and human fieldwork and is complimented with sessions on Southwold's key geographical issues. By popular demand! We've added a single days fieldwork focusing on urban methods of data collection, specifically rebranding and regeneration techniques. Students will have the opportunity to trial at least 12 new methods including safety perception surveys, index of decay, place preservation, regeneration Likert surveys and weighted environmental quality surveys.
This course works well as an additional day to our skills booster courses in Southwold, the experience in Ipswich provides students with the chance to experiment with human methods that can then be transferred and tweaked to be relevant to their own local investigations.
Ipswich Waterfront is a great site for fieldwork, it is traffic-free and relatively safe and compact. It has regenerated modern spaces and derelict, run-down and redundant buildings making an ideal contrast aand providing lots of scope for varied investigation.
